Why We Chose the Name "Janus" for Our Brand
When Ryan and I were preparing to launch Janus Deli, one of the biggest questions we faced was what to name our new brand. We spent countless hours brainstorming, tossing around ideas, and searching for a name that truly captured the essence of what we wanted to create.
After considering several options, we kept coming back to the name "Janus" (pronounced YA-NUS), and for good reason.
In Roman mythology, Janus is the god of beginnings, endings, and transitions. He is often depicted with two faces: one looking back at the past and the other looking forward to the future. This perfectly aligned with the spirit of our new venture. We wanted Janus Deli to represent a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation—a place where the past and the present coexist to create something meaningful and timeless.
On a personal level, Janus also reflected the partnership between Ryan and me. We often have different approaches and ideas, but like Janus’s two faces that share one head, we balance each other out. Together, we work towards a unified vision, combining our unique strengths to build a brand that feels cohesive and strong.
With Janus Deli, our goal is to create a space where people can make memories while enjoying flavours that evoke both nostalgia and modern creativity. The name is more than just a label—it’s a symbol of where we’ve been, where we’re going, and the shared moments we hope to create along the way.
